If you are having a difficult time trying to play Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands online, forwarding ports in your router may solve your problems. Forwarding ports in your router makes a direct connection between you and the other players on your squad.
If you want to be squad leader during online co-op you will need to forward ports. Another benefit to forwarding ports is being allowed to host the game which means less lag time for you. In order to play Wildlands online with your friends, at least one of your squad members will need to forward ports so that everyone else will be able to connect to them. In Ghost Recon: Wildlands, up to 4 players are able to join a squad and play online co-op.
For Xbox One and PC:
If you are seeing NAT Type Strict in the game lobby then you will not be able to connect to some players. You really want NAT Type Open which allows you to connect to players that have NAT Type Open, NAT Type Moderate and NAT Type Strict. NAT Type Open is necessary if you want to be lobby host.
Forwarding ports in your router for Wildlands is necessary for a NAT Type Open connection. After forwarding ports in your router you can check your NAT Type in the game lobby. If you are gaming on PC, you can use a port checking tool to see if your ports have been forwarded. We have a free tool in our Network Utilities software bundle that you can use to check your ports.
For PS4:
NAT Type 2 is your goal for a good connection with other players and to make hosting lobbies possible. With NAT Type 2 you can communicate with everyone. NAT Type 1 is only possible if you do not have a router or bypass your router's firewall. If you have NAT Type 3 you will only be able to connect to players with NAT Type 1 or NAT Type 2 and may not be able to connect to some of your friends. If you see NAT Type Open it can mean either NAT Type 2 or NAT Type 1. NAT Type 2 is necessary if you want to host lobbies. Forward ports in your router for Wildlands to get a NAT Type 2 connection.

To improve your connection you can forward ports in your router for Wildlands. Since each gaming device (PS4, Xbox One and PC) uses a different range of ports in your router, you will need to forward the ports listed for your gaming platform.
