Setting Up a Port Forward for BackupStream
You might need to forward some ports in your router when you use BackupStream. By forwarding ports you allow connection requests coming from the internet to be directed to BackupStream.
By default routers do not allow incoming network requests. By forwarding ports you can work around this limitation.
Before You Forward a Port
Before you can forward a port you need to know the following things:
- Your router's internal IP address.
- The IP address of your computer.
- Each of the TCP and UDP ports that you need to forward.

Setting Up a Port Forward for BackupStream
The easiest way to forward your ports is to use our Network Utilities software. Our Network Utilities software allows you to add port forwards and also remove them when you no longer need them to maximize your network security.
You can also choose to set up port forwards manually. The step-by-step process for forwarding a port is:
- Start by logging in to your router.
- Locate the section in your router that deals with port forwarding.
- Put your computer's IP address in the proper box in your router.
- Put the TCP and UDP ports that you are forwarding for BackupStream in the correct boxes in your router.
Usually you have to reboot your router in order to save the changes.
