Forward Ports for FrostWire
When you use FrostWire you might need to forward some ports in your router. By forwarding ports you allow connection requests coming from the internet to be directed to FrostWire.
By default routers do not allow incoming network requests. A port forward can overcome this limitation.
Before You Forward a Port
Make sure that you know these things before forwarding a port:
- Your router's IP address.
- The internal IP address of your download client.
- A list of TCP and UDP ports that need to be forwarded.
How to Locate Your Router's IP Address
The easiest way to locate your router's IP address is to run our free Router Detector utility. It is part of our Network Utilities suite of tools and is free for you to use it.

Forwarding a Port for FrostWire
You can use our Network Utilities software to automatically forward ports for you. Network Utilities lets you manage port forwards by putting them in when you need them and also removing the ones that you no longer need which maximized network security.
Alternatively you can do it by hand. The step-by-step process for forwarding a port is:
- Start by logging in to your router.
- Find the port forwarding section in your router.
- Put your download client's IP address in the proper box in your router.
- Put the TCP and UDP ports that you are forwarding for FrostWire in the correct boxes in your router.
Usually you have to reboot your router in order to save the changes.
